Missy Moos Gourmet Burger Bar - The Mezz

Missy Moos has made quite a name in Fremantle for great burgers and now they have moved a little closer to me with a store at The Mezz in Mt Hawthorn. They are in a great spot in the laneway right near the small playground which you can see from the outside tables.
Inside is also heaven for kids with one end having blackboards to draw on and the other end having an arcade game, drawing supplies and board games built into the tables!
Here is my Where's Wally? table with our table number ball.
My daughter enjoyed playing snakes and ladders at the other table while waiting for our food to arrive.
I went with the vegetarian Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater ($14.50) which had a great kick to it! The patty contains pumpkin, spinach, cous cous and butter beans which is then topped with beetroot, baby spinach, tomato, aioli, chilli jam and tomato relish. It was delicious! I'm sure I got my 5 serves of vegetables for the day in one burger.

Also pictured is a large chunky chips ($6). Nice and crunchy and not oily there were plenty for my 4 kids to share (and a couple for me!)
This Little Piggy ($9) is what my girls decided on. I cut it up for the three girls and they enjoyed it. Heaps of bacon, egg, cheese and BBQ sauce.
I'm looking forward to heading back and trying a meat burger plus an Incy Wincy Spider!

Plenty of highchairs available. There are toilets including baby change room located in the Mezz.

I think the last time I drove past this area it was just sand dunes and wow it has changed so much I want to build a house there!
Though the splash pad wasn't working today you can see it here to the right and the little sandpit to the left with the rolling green hills behind it.

BBQs

Gorgeous clear shallow water, white sandy beach

A fantastic spot for those with kids as the water is calm and shallow, BBQs, parking close by, Dome coffee shop right next to it, toilets and the play area.

Next time we are coming back with picnic and bathers!

Play some music

A great park for all ages. There is a sandpit at one end next to a row of swings, lots of climbing equipment, some drums to play, a 'shop' play area and a path around it to scoot.

Best time to go would be early or late in the day. There are no shade sails over it so the middle of the day would get very hot!

Heaven! Food and ocean meet on a warm Summer evening. Walking into the markets the smell is amazing! So many different foods cooking that if you weren't hungry before you will be soon!

Every Saturday 5-9pm through Summer you can find the Bathers beach Sunset Markets happening. Finding something tasty to eat is easy though finding a parking spot can be a bit of a challenge! Catching the train in and walk across from the station is your best bet.
My dinner was a $5 pad thai. So good and a great price! Add on a spring roll for $1 each.
The kids went with a Hawaiian pizza from Pizza Queens for $10. There was quite a wait for them so I ordered, got mine then came back and waited for the pizza.

This park is worth the drive! Pack a picnic, bring your scooters and lots of hats and sunscreen!

Dig for dinosaur bones in the sand.
Become captain on your pirate ship
dig for gold or build great sandpiles
 The waterplay is essential here!
Go under or over to the giant flying fox or rocking log!

I need to take more photos on our next visit as there is so much more around! A massive grass area, self cleaning toilets and though there looks like there is heaps of parking here it fills up quickly during the weekends and school holidays. It is fully fenced. There isn't a lot of shade, just a bit over some tables but plenty of trees that will grow huge over the years.

This is an all abilities park with wheelchair swing and heaps of disabled parking bays.

If you head down to the river near the park there is a gorgeous walkway along the river with lots to see. Walk the dog or ride the scooters along there.

The Junction Icecreamery is just up the road too and has so many yummy ice cream flavours you'll have a hard time choosing. The ice cream van also often rocks up at the park.

Click here to be directed to St Phillips website.
History of Carols by Candlelight in Cottesloe
In 1998, the Town of Cottesloe asked St Phillips Church to partner with them in organising an annual Carols by Candlelight event at the Civic Centre. The first 1998 Carols by Candlelight included Kobe the Christmas Tree segment. Over the ensuring years, crowds of between 1000 and 2000 adults and children, depending largely on the weather, have enjoyed the Carols event. 2011 was our largest crowd yet and was a fantastic night.
People clearly enjoy a relaxed picnic on the Civic Centre main lawn followed by carol singing with drama and dance performance segments. The event has become an annual Christmas tradition for many families. It provides a break from the bustle of the Christmas build-up and an opportunity to reflect on the deeper significance of the Christmas Season.

Theobroma Chocolate Lounge - Perth

I got a deal for 2 waffles and 2 hot chocolates many months ago and as it was nearing the end of the time to use it I decided it would be great for one on one time with my Miss M and we could hit Fringe World after.

When we walked in all the indoor tables were taken. There are a lot of tables outside but it was very warm so we ordered then waited for someone inside to leave. They were out of strawberries (was meant to be waffles with strawberries & cream) but we were happy to change it to banana. I went with the milk chocolate hot choc for Miss M and the dark chocolate hot choc for myself.

A table finally left but they left a huge mess! I managed to move it to one end but despite the staff walking past many times they didn't try and clear it until they came out with our food and couldn't fit it anywhere! That was about 20 minutes of us sitting there.
I really liked the dark chocolate hot chocolate and so did Miss M as she wanted to swap with me!
The waffles were huge! A tad dry but nice with the banana. Miss M could only eat half so she put the other half in a napkin to eat later (this one NEVER wastes sweets!).

Service is a bit hit and miss. Don't bring a pram. I would head back again if they did another deal. They are also in the Entertainment Book.

The Maylands Markets started a fortnight ago and I have been to both markets they have held so far. With different stalls each time there is a great range of food for all tastes. The lines the first week were HUGE but with more savoury options last weekend the waits weren't quite so long.
Jumplings

I had jumplings and they were delicious! My 1 year old loved the noodles.
How cute is the gelato cart?

Delish Ice have been there each week. They have samples of some flavours so you can try before you buy (my kids love the raspberry lemonade)
Creamy ghees amazing icecream making! They use liquid nitrogen to make it, like a science demonstration for the kids before tasting the yummy icecream. They were there week 1.
Salted caramel is the best taste ever!!!

So far I have seen hotdogs, crepes, pad thai, empanadas, pizza, dumplings, tacos, grinders, sliders, stuffed potatoes, curries, icecream, cupcakes, coffee and popcorn! Can't wait to see what they have in store next weekend!

Maylands Markets are held at The Rise Maylands (bordered by Guildford Road and eighth ave Maylands) every Saturday until April from 4.30-8pm

Teriyaki Chicken lunch set

After a day of Fringe World around the Perth Cultural Centre and along James Street in Northbridge with Miss J and Miss M we wanted a quick bite to eat. Walking into Aisuru Sushi we were warmly welcomed and quickly shown to a seat. Service was so fast and friendly we had our meals in front of us in no time.
Katsu Chicken

We ordered 2 lunch sets which were very reasonable at $15.50 each. Teriyaki Chicken and Katsu Chicken. Even with 3 of us eating we couldn't finish it all!
Miso Soup
Miss M loved the Miso, Miss J loved the Katsu and I loved the coleslaw.

They also have a sushi bar where you can sit and see your sushi being made fresh before you.

Service was fantastic, reasonably priced food and very tasty. There are toilets, not much room for prams unless you sit outside, good for a quick meal if you are at the PCC or the Heath Ledger theatre.

Miss J teaching us how to use chopsticks.

Located at 637 Wanneroo Road in Wanneroo it was easy to find and plenty of parking out the front (if the front is full there is parking around the side and back too).
Within seconds of walking in the kids were jumping like crazy! They can jump up the walls.
Play some basketball!

running and jumping into the foam pit so fast she is a blur!

And a giant bouncy castle!

For the under 3's there is a great little play area next to the seating and cafe area.

Upstairs is the party area looking out over the whole centre.

My kids couldn't get enough of the foam pit and were soon doing twists, turns and flipping themselves into the pit! I love that it is easy to keep track of your kids from the cafe area and that you can still bring younger siblings along.

In the future they plan to have fitness classes, parkour nights, kids agility classes and competitive dodgeball!

Just Jump is officially opening THIS FRIDAY 10am!!! (7th Feb)

General admission is $15 for one hour
Just Jump socks are $2 (you can keep them and bring them along each visit)
During the school day from 10am-2pm it's only $10 per hour.

Currently taking bookings via phone and email.

You do need to sign a waiver before anyone can jump. Minimum age to jump is 3.

The cafe has drinks, chocolates, snacks and most importantly coffee! There will be more food available once they are open.

For more info head to the Just Jump website HERE

Eighth Ave & Whatley Cres Maylands

One of my favourite places to visit is Eighth Avenue in Maylands. So many great shops packed into one area and just a short drive away from the awesome Bayswater Gardens playground. This area has developed at a very fast rate and has quickly become one of the go to places for foodies and fashion lovers.
First stop is Sherbet Cafe and Bake Shop. You can't walk in here without putting on a kilo! So many amazing cakes all looking amazing on cute vintage plates. You can even order a whole delicious cake for celebrations. Good coffee and milkshakes too. My kids LOVE the choc chip banana bread. Closed Mondays and public holidays, open from 8am every other day. 2 reviews HERE and HERE
Next spot walking along Whatley is Chapels on Whatley. Looks small from the front but has a large outdoor area in the back. With 60 teas to choose from, coffee, more substantial meals and many asian inspired pieces for the home. Closed Tuesdays.
There are many small fashion outlets around this area but I thought I would highlight Look Feel Be because the ladies are so lovely!
If you would prefer some treats to bring home pop into Smoults Deli where they have a huge selection of cheeses and cured meats plus pasta, sauces, relishes, heaps more and don't forget Ben & Jerrys icecream!! They also offer catering, picnics and you often see the bbq out the front sizzling sausages.
Mrs S on the corner of 8th and Whatley is never quiet! Weekends you will often find lines outside waiting for a late breakfast. Breakfast, lunch and treats in between are what you will find here with friendly service. Closed Mondays and public holidays. Full review HERE.
Around the corner onto 8th Ave is one of my favourite kids stores, Sosi. Jojo's shop as my #3 daughter calls it is full of mid range priced pieces with an emphasis on local labels. Big name clothing labels like the super bright Hootkid and comfortable Milky grace the shelves in between handmade tutus from Mini Diva Tutus and amazing fairy wings from Arabellas Vintage Wardrobe. Get them to wrap up presents and top it with a card made by Aimless Designs.
Further along 8th is Magic Shoebox, owned and run by podiatrist Kath. Get the kids feet properly sized then browse the huge range of shoes while they sit at the lego table happily building. Brands include Clarks, New Balance, see kai run, Pediped and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada. Full review HERE.
Finally, if you head up 8th and cross Guildford rd on Saturdays from 4.30 you will from the Maylands Markets. A great spot to spend a warm evening with a range of food for any taste in the grounds of The Rise. Each week the vendors change but there is always a hard choice to be made. Running from 4.30pm-8pm September-April. Full review HERE.

There are plenty of other places to visit around the area including WA Ballet, Milkd, Rifos, post office, butchers, bakers and art galleries.

Lovers of the area which is your favourite spot to hit on 8th or Whatley?

The sixth annual ‘Carnevale of the People’s Republic of Fremantle’ kicks off at Fremantle Markets at 7.30 pm Friday 28 February with a vibrant Carnevale Opening Night Parade along Cappuccino Strip led by the WASAMBA Carnevale band and this year’s samba-dancing Queen of Carnevale.

The City of Wanneroo in partnership with Yanchep National Park are proud to introduce our newest event the calendar – Retro Rewind.
Celebrate everything you love about the past in the beautiful surrounds of Yanchep National Park. Headlining the event will be 60s and 70s soul group Stratosfunk.
Head back to the 60s and early 70s soul scene with Stratosfunk who will perform hits from the Motown era. The band’s dynamic, toe-tappin’ rhythm section combined with a blistering horn section meet a front row of powerhouse vocalists.  With retro dance moves and style to match, their soulful sounds will have you up dancing from the first song.
The musical entertainment will also feature Cottontail Trio & the Supper Club, a nine-piece band bringing the music of the Golden Era back to life. Picture a three-part horn section and a swingin' rhythm section fronted by Jessie Gordon, Amy Rosato and Alissa Claessens whose perfect harmonies have vintage jazz dances to match, making you feel as though you are back swinging in the Savoy ballroom or jumping at the Cotton Club.
There will be plenty of retro-themed activities for the whole family including a special area showing off a number of hot-rods and American classics. If you're interested in registering your vehicle please click here for more information.
The normal activities at Yanchep National Park will also be open including koala talks, cave tours and walking trails. Some of these require advance booking. Please check their website for more details.

Pirate Bar - Joondanna

Arrr me hearties! We found ye a great little inner northern suburbs spot to stop for a bite to eat!

Located along Green Street in Joondanna right on the border with Mt Hawthorn is the brand new Pirate Bar. This is the first place I've been too in a while that had heaps of room to get our pram in (our youngest fell asleep with perfect timing).
There is a cute little courtyard at the rear but seeing as it was 38 degrees today we decided to stick with the aircon inside.
The kids found the 'treasure' pretty quickly and the wait for food went by in no time while playing pirates and reading pirate tales.
We went with the greek lamb pizza ($21) for the kids to share. The lamb was cooked so well it just melted in your mouth, crispy base and great taste.
My husband and I both had the burger and chips. This isn't on the menu at the moment but as part of a Living Social deal for 2 burgers, 2 chips and 2 beer/wine/softdrink for $22. It goes for 5 more days here. If I could I would buy it again for that price. The burger was good but really needed more salad besides the baby spinach for me. I saw the picture on their Facebook page and it looked packed with salad! I only got about 2 chips before the kids ate them all.
My husband was very happy with the beers they had on tap. They are a bit more on the expensive side of tap beers because they are all craft beers and they do support a lot of WA made ones.
The decor is pretty cool with porthole windows, pirate themed artwork and large black couches.
My daughter took this picture because she liked the skeleton pirate.

There are highchairs available if you need them for little ones, nice & clean toilets.

I'd love to go back and try some of the plates like cajun popcorn chicken ($18), BBQ Pork Ribs ($22) and Saffron & Mozzarella Arancini ($14).

Very friendly service and they didn't mind the kids battling their pirate ships on the floor.

I hope Pirate Bar does well here, it's a great place in a very central location.

Let me know if you try it!

Sayers - Leederville

I don't know why it's taken me so long but I finally found time to get to Sayers! I must be the last food blogger in Perth to get there but it was worth the wait! Even just before 12 on a Wednesday nearly all the tables were full.

We arrived just as they changed from breakfast menu to lunch but the breakfast menu was still on our table and my daughter liked the sound of choc chip banana bread ($8) and luckily they allowed me to order it. As you can see above it looks awesome and it tasted amazing! My personal facebook page went crazy when I posted it! Thick slices of chocolatey banana goodness with a shooter of butter and maple syrup. My daughter allowed me one tiny crumb though she did let her brother have half a slice.
Sayers had five senses coffee create a special blend for them and it is one of the best coffees I've had in Perth! I would gladly have gone back for a second cup if I could fit anything else in.
There is a lunch menu and also a few extras made each day and displayed on the counter. I went with a sirloin & brie quiche ($17) that came with a massive amount of fresh salad. It all tasted wonderful. The meat wasn't chewy, the brie went perfectly with the other flavours and not a limp piece of lettuce in sight!
The service was fantastic. They offered to put the kids milkshake into 2 takeaway paper cups with straws which is always must easier with a 1 1/2 year old.

This is one spot that I can't wait to head back and visit again! Breakfast next time before hitting the Leederville Farmers Market which is only 50 metres away on a Sunday. Be prepared for a wait on weekends.

Perth Hawkers Market

Friday night in the city is pretty busy and during the warmer months even more so with the Hawkers Market in Forrest Place! I suggest public transport rather than battling for a parking spot though I managed to get into the Cultural Centre carpark just as someone left while all around the FULL signs were flashing at other carparks.

Forrest Place is just over the bridge from the train station in front of Myer and the old Post Office building. They turn the water labyrinth off and it is soon filled with amazing smells and masses of people!
This is from on of the japanese places, $10 for half pancake, half noodles or $11 with water. So tasty! I couldn't finish it so had to take some home.
Curly potatoes ($6 each) were the big hit with the kids! Like a giant chip on a stick.

Donuts (4 for $10). Amazing donuts filled with jam. Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.
To end the hot night we headed to Delish Ice which is always a favourite for both the kids and adults.
I went with the passionfruit, mint and lime. AMAZING! So refreshing it really hits the spot.

This is just a tiny amount of the food on offer, there must be over 30 vendors with a massive range of cuisines.  I look forward to heading back again soon! Great with kids because the food is quick. Find a step to sit and watch the music or eat quickly then hit the shops which are open late on Fridays.
