Today I got to go on a tour of the brand new Fiona Stanley Hospital that is due to partly open later in the year. An amazing hospital which will make it a lot easier on those SOR if they need to head to emergency or use any of the other facilities available.
The tours are running today (19th March), tomorrow 20th and Sunday 23rd March from 10am-2pm. They are approximately 1km in length and take about 45 minutes. Pram and wheelchair friendly.
I thought I would start with a few of the areas that might interest parents then a few other interesting features.
The picture above is the Emergency Department. There is an adults emergency area and a children's.
This is the mental health unit. It is designed for short stays only but they have 8 beds available for mothers & babies to come stay for example those suffering from post natal depression.
This is the paediatric area. They have a playground to be used by kids and their families staying in the hospital.
So many green areas between and on top of buildings. The statues in this area were designed by kids and are made to be played on.
One of the hospital rooms. Almost all of the hospital is single rooms not shared. You can skype on the TVs, movies, gaming and you get your own number so family and friends can ring you directly. The rooms have gorgeous city views or hill views.
You might be wondering what this is. It's called the bariatric room for larger patients. It can hold up to 400kgs and takes them from the bed into the bathroom.
One of the ensuites.
The drop off/pick up area for dialysis.
I love how the signs point to all the various parks around the hospital. This building behind it is the Rehabilitation centre. The Shenton Park campus will transfer here. It has 140 beds and surrounded by gardens plus a cafe that patients can be wheeled down in their beds to so they can spend time with their families.
So many interesting pieces of art work around the hospital by local artists.
There is a helipad on top of the hospital.
The whole hospital is huge. It is about the size of 4 city blocks in total!
There is parking all the way around the hospital including multiple level undercover. Parking will be at a fee which they haven't released yet.
For those interested in working there they are currently building a child care centre on site too.
The hospital is very easy to get to. It only took 30 minutes from Morley! I got off at South Street on the Kwinana Freeway then turned onto Murdoch Drive and it is right near the Murdoch station along the train line.

One of the ensuites.
It is hard to explain this machine. It runs on sensors and does a lot of work that would usually take staff away from the wards. It's a cart that carries things between floors like the meals for the day from the kitchen to the ward or taking linen between the laundry and ward.
The food warmer/cooler.The drop off/pick up area for dialysis.
