Hyde Park

Hyde Park is such a gorgeous spot whether you want to ride the bikes around, explore or play.
Now that it is warming up we love the splash pad area!
this pole is how you turn it on, press the top!

All my 4 are cool weather babies but if you have an October-April child this would be a great spot for a party! The gazebo is huge and right next to the splash pad.
There is a toilet block near the main playground.
If the weather is too cold or you've finished cooling down the playground is lots of fun with a big fort, swings, sand and a wheelchair swing. Lots of tables nearby too though on weekends most are taken with parties.

There are a few coffee shops a street or 2 away including Sydney Loves Audrey on Fitzgerald Street, Sayers Sister just down Lake Street and there is the Hyde Park Deli at the William Street end.

Wagokoro Japanese - Morley

Wagokoro is located next to the Cheesecake Shop along Walter Road. This spot has had a few changes in the time I've lived in Morley so we were interested to see what the latest shop was.
With 4 kids in tow seeing a kids play area is always nice! It is just a small area but kept the kids happy during the very short wait for our food to come. It is kept very clean.

A cup of green tea is only $2
I ordered the Chicken Karaage Bento Box ($12.50). It was good but really needed some sauce, my husband who got the Katsu Chicken thought the same. The miso soup was delicious and my girls love it, at only $2 a bowl it's easy to get one each. We also ordered some spring rolls ($7) which the kids enjoyed after their soup.

They had run out of sushi on the day we were there so I will be back to try that, they also have a special Ramen day on Saturdays.

Highchairs available, no toilets, plenty of parking. They also have some bento items for sale.

This park is worth the drive! Pack a picnic, bring your scooters and lots of hats and sunscreen!

Dig for dinosaur bones in the sand.
Become captain on your pirate ship
dig for gold or build great sandpiles
 The waterplay is essential here!
Go under or over to the giant flying fox or rocking log!

I need to take more photos on our next visit as there is so much more around! A massive grass area, self cleaning toilets and though there looks like there is heaps of parking here it fills up quickly during the weekends and school holidays. It is fully fenced. There isn't a lot of shade, just a bit over some tables but plenty of trees that will grow huge over the years.

This is an all abilities park with wheelchair swing and heaps of disabled parking bays.

If you head down to the river near the park there is a gorgeous walkway along the river with lots to see. Walk the dog or ride the scooters along there.

The Junction Icecreamery is just up the road too and has so many yummy ice cream flavours you'll have a hard time choosing. The ice cream van also often rocks up at the park.

In 1998, the Town of Cottesloe asked St Phillips Church to partner with them in organising an annual Carols by Candlelight event at the Civic Centre. The first 1998 Carols by Candlelight included Kobe the Christmas Tree segment. Over the ensuring years, crowds of between 1000 and 2000 adults and children, depending largely on the weather, have enjoyed the Carols event. 2011 was our largest crowd yet and was a fantastic night.

Blue Lotus Cafe - Waldecks Stirling

We often drop into Waldecks Stirling as my dentist is across the road so my mum usually sits and has a coffee while the kids play and I get a check up. Only 2 minutes drive off the freeway it's also a great spot to meet up with friends. Weekends it gets very busy but today there were only 3 other tables occupied so it was easy to grab a couch next to the play area.

The cafe has plenty of space to spread out with heaps of tables. Lots of highchairs available too. The staff are friendly and the service was quick. Prices are around the same as most cafes around Perth and they have a daily specials board with lots of tasty options plus some amazing looking cakes in the cabinet.
latte

babycino

banana bread

plenty of tables beside the play area

If the weather is bad there the inside is still child friendly with colouring in books and pencils plus a huge stack of kids books.

Waldecks currently have Petunias on sale for only $1 each so let the kids pick one out to plant when they get home though my daughter decided on a strawberry plant instead and a butterfly stake, then I decided I needed a kangaroo paw.....

Arthur Claus is Santa’s misfit son who executes an unauthorised rookie mission to get the last present half way around the globe before dawn on Christmas morning

When I won some tickets to the Gourmet Escape in Margaret River there was no way I was going to drag all 4 kids down there just for the day so with 2 weeks notice and leavers starting on the Sunday I went on the search! Luckily for me Sandy Bay had a spot for Friday night and they allowed us to stay the Saturday night as well which they had originally closed to prepare for leavers.

Located less than 5 minutes drive out of the main area of Busselton along the ocean road towards Dunsborough it was easy to find, turn right just after the drive in theatre or type Sandy Bay into Googlemaps!

Check in was simple and we were greeted by the friendly staff. I was given some great maps of the local area plus after asking about family friendly dining a list of wineries and breweries around the south west with playgrounds, kids entertainment etc. You can book tours through the office plus they have ice creams for sale which is perfect after an afternoon at the beach as you are walking back to your chalet.
As a family of 6 it is often hard to find accommodation where we don't need to pay for extra rooms but there was room for all of us in the Rammed Earth Chalets. Self contained and 2 bedrooms to sleep up to 6.
The Swiss Chalets look so quaint and cosy, they accommodate up to 4 people.

They also have camping & caravan sites available.
It was lovely to walk in and see they had given us a highchair and port a cot for our little one! These are provided free of charge, just arrange when making your booking. There is also a fireplace for the cooler months & they provide you with wood.
 Gorgeous little dining area!
Full kitchen with fridge, microwave, oven and cooktop.
Master bedroom has a queen size bed and built in wardrobes.
Second room has 2 sets of bunks and a wardrobe.
The bathroom has a shower & a big laundry sink to bath little ones plus chairs if you want to sit outside.
 Separate toilet from the bathroom.
The chalets area arranged in an oval shape and in the middle there is a communal BBQ area, ablutions block with a laundry and the little...
playground! Swings, fort and slide plus lots of sand equals happy kids! Surrounded by lush grass to run on or have a picnic. The speed limit around the park is 8kmph so great for kids to ride bikes around to.

A 2 minute walk away is this! One of the best things about Sandy Bay is that it is on a no through road & right at the end so a short walk & you have endless white sand, calm water & millions of shells to find! Pack a bucket & spade! Also, apparently good fishing.

There is a great walking/cycling track the whole way along the beach, if you pack your bikes you could ride into Busselton.

A block away from Sandy Bay there is an IGA, chemist, newsagent & food court.

The Chalets start at $134 in low season, $148 mid season & from $257 during high season (Christmas, January school holidays & Easter long weekend).

For booking information & full price lists check out their website

Friendly, helpful staff & great location we will be back again!

The brand new playround right above a popular surf beach in Yallingup is AMAZING! A must stop with kids when visiting the south west. Lots of natural pieces to explore & use their imagination. They can surf, abseil, rock climb, be pirates, go under, over, slide & swing!

The amazing view

There are plans for more development including BBQs, more seating & viewing platforms. There is a little cafe nearby with takeaway coffee.

Xscape at the Cape Fun Park

Let's start with the newest attraction coming hopefully before Christmas this amazing water play area! It looks so much fun we can't wait for our next visit!

Prices for entry including the water park haven't been announced yet but I will update as soon as I know.

When you come in you head straight for the window to pay and collect wristbands. The wristbands have a barcode on them that you scan to get into the areas you have paid for. We had the Kidzone Combo ($18) which allows you to play one round of Wacky Putt and unlimited use of Tiki Island, Tiki Mountain and Quindalup Sliding Train.

Plenty of seating around the park to keep an eye on your little ones. Lots of the area is undercover or has shady trees.
Tiki Mountain was where ours headed straight to!
 Climb up high
 Ride trucks and rockets
 Climb back down!

Full of slides, bridges, netting, climbing and driving the kids could spend hours in there!
Tiki Island they can bounce any leftover energy away!
The kids loved hiding from each other in Tiki Island and soon made friends to join in their game.

Jumps 'N' Tramps is 10 trampolines in one enclosure. Behind that is Jungle Mountain.

All aboard! My 2 biggest girls got to drive in the engine and had a blast ringing the bell! They blow a whistle to give you notice that it will be going soon.
Yahava coffee! This was much needed after an early start to the day!
Mine Shaft Maze. Even if you haven't paid to go in the maze you can still go on the viewing platform and watch people trying to find their way out.

And finally the hilarious ending...
We loved the Wacky Putt course! So many laughs.
where did my ball go?

oh there it is!

Through the windmill

under the mushrooms

Watch out for squirting animals!

Dinosaurs galore

into the wishing well

This one sung us hickory dickory dock!

And finally for the drive home you need to have an icecream cone! Millers Icecreamery supply the icecream and all the flavours are delicious you will have a hard time choosing.

Xscape is open 10am-3pm Monday to Friday and 10am-4pm weekends, school and public holidays.

Well look what landed on my doorstep this week! Everything good comes wrapped in a big bow!
I had to sneak into a room down the end of the house to get a photo before my kids saw what was inside. Nestled in amongst some shredded paper to keep them safe were some gingerbread folk looking out at me. My kids absolutely LOVE gingerbread.

Morries Anytime - Margaret River

At the end of the busy main street of Margaret River is a tiny shop front but inside is a cosy haven of good coffee, lovely service and great food!

We had an hour to spare before Gourmet Escape opened for the day and it seemed like our group and everyone else had decided on coffee in Margaret River! Luckily they made room for us in the front area as we had 4 kids and 10 adults!
latte $3.70
It was a chilly morning and the kids had been up while there was still a 5 at the start of the time that morning so this coffee was much needed!
green smoothie $7
My husbands power start to the day was the green smoothie which contained apple, orange, banana, spirulina, parsley and spinach, it actually tasted really good! A meal in itself.

banana smoothie $7
My daughter wasn't letting go of this one! The other kids opted for the $1 babychino but she went the more expensive route. Containing banana, honey, yoghurt, milk & ice when she finally gave me a sip it was delicious! Kept her going strong through the day.

breaky burger $13.50
I must say this is the best breaky burger I've ever eaten! Fried egg, bacon, swiss cheese, aioli and tomato relish it was so good that my mouth is watering looking at the picture again!

waffles $16
Of course reading through the menu my kids HAD to have the waffles and there was plenty for them to share. No-one let me have a taste of this one and by the time I ate my burger there was no trace that a waffle had been on the plate!
banana bread $6.50
I ordered the banana bread in case the waffles weren't enough for the kids but it mostly went to my son. It was good with the cinnamon butter and he devoured it.

There is a kids breakfast menu with all items $7 and under including scrambled eggs & sausage or bacon, kids toast and jam or fruit salad and yoghurt, I should have steered them that way before letting my 6 year old read the waffles on the main menu! The kids menu for lunch or dinner are all $11 and all sound fantastic.

The staff were fantastic and came out with a box of toys while we waited for the rest of our party. They had a highchair available. I wouldn't recommend bring a pram in.

Great spot and I recommend it when passing through or staying in Margaret River. I'll be back for another breaky burger when we come through next time!

The Dunsborough

Driving past Dunsborough on our way to Yallingup we noticed the bright colours of the play area at The Dunsborough and after a quick flick through the Entertainment Book I noticed there was a voucher for 25% off! Dinner spot decided.

We arrived for an early dinner and the kids took off to the play area which is right next to the dining area.

The menu is similar to many of the chain pubs around Perth.

Ordering is counter service so my husband went up and ordered while I looked around. It is your typical country pub with a beer garden area, the bistro and a TAB. It doesn't make for the best atmosphere as people that have had a few too many drinks are wandering between the bar and garden area.

Luckily the food arrived pretty quickly!
Kids pizza and chips
'Pirate Treasure' is ham and pineapple pizza with chips. The kids weren't very impressed but my husband had a taste and said it was ok.
kids bangers and mash
'Buddy Bangers with Friends Smash & Mash' is meant to be 2 sausages with smashed peas and potato mash. The 2 sausages were one cut in half! A good sized meal for little ones though and my 1 year old loves peas.

Kids meals are all $9.90
Wagyu burger ($18.80)
This was pretty good except the burger patty tasted more like sausage meat. The burger was huge and I couldn't eat any chips after it!
Steak sanga ($18.80)
My husband was craving a steak sandwich and said this hit the spot.

Good spot for a quick meal (we were in and out in half an hour) and keeping the kids entertained. Plenty of highchairs available and lots of room if you bring in a pram. If you have the Entertainment Book bring along the voucher and it makes for quite a cheap meal out.

Cowaramup Brewery

We have done a few of the family friendly breweries in the South West but had yet to head to Cowaramup and had heard great things so it was decided for this trip.

Cowaramup is a few kilometres north of Margaret River and the turn off for the brewery is just before you hit the town.

The brewery is located out in the quiet countryside with beautiful grassed areas overlooking a pond and the drawcard for families...
a great little playground! Slide and fort my big 3 were soon playing shops.
Plus a couple of swings to help build up hunger.

The only problem was it felt like we just started playing when the food arrived! Can't believe how quick the service was!
Brewery cheeseburger
OK the burger was mine! Lucky I managed to squash it down a bit to fit in my mouth! The burger was awesome! Just right for a busy day running around the South West.
Beef & Porter pie
Nothing like melt in your mouth beef, dipping your chips in gravy and a cold beer to keep my husband happy!

kids crispy chicken strips & chips $11

Kids ham & cheese pizza and chips $11

The kids enjoyed their meals and were soon back to playing in the playground.
Our lunch view
Fantastic service, gorgeous location it is the perfect spot for families to drop in for a meal between the chocolate and dairy companies, finding cows in Cowaramup and sweetening everyone up at the Candy Cow! High chairs available and a change table.

This is a great spot to come rest for a while between all the siteseeing.

Located in the fresh food court at Karrinyup shopping centre is Crepe Cherie. A great spot to stop for a bite and much more comfortable than the food hall.

We grabbed a table near the kids play table and my 4 year old was soon colouring away.
iced coffee
This iced coffee is not for anyone watching their weight! Piled high with cream and icecream it was the caffeine hit I needed to start the day.
kids combo
The Kids Combo is $10.50 and they get a choice of apple or orange juice plus a 2 filling crepe in multiple sweet or savoury options. Mine went with nutella and banana with an apple juice. It went pretty quickly! Love the cute matching plate and cup.

It is counter service but they were very friendly plus they asked if I would like an extra plate and cutlery for the girls to share the crepe. Plenty of highchairs available and very close to a parenting room.

Nice to stop and sip on a drink while the kids coloured in between all the craziness of Christmas shopping!

After both admit they come from broken homes, they soon realize they are twin sisters and that their parents, Mitch and Maggie, divorced shortly after their birth, with each parent having custody of one of them.
